 Finance & Purchasing

The Finance & the Purchasing Departments work together as one department. The functions performed within these departments consist of maintaining accounts payable, preparation of bank reconciliation's, payment of bills, monitoring monthly budget controls, performing internal audits and all other related accounting responsibilities. All purchases made by the Borough must go through purchasing with prior approval from the departments. This department also prepares specifications for purchases that exceed the state bid threshold of $17,500.00 which is state statue. All state contracts and Middlesex County cooperative pricing contracts are maintained within this department.

 Department Information

Tax Collection

The Tax Collection Department is responsible for the maintaining of over 8,000 individual tax accounts and a like number of sewer usuage accounts. Amounts charged and payments made are all individually maintained.

The Final 2009/2010 Tax Bills were mailed out in October. If you have not received your tax bill, please contact the Tax Collectors Office at (732) 541-3820.

The office hours are 8 am to 4 pm. The Tax due dates are as follows:

 QUARTER DUE DATE   
 4TH QUARTER 11/16/2009   
 1ST QUARTER 02/01/2010  
 2ND QUARTER 05/01/2010  
 3RD QUARTER 08/01/2010   

The Borough of Carteret offers a 10 calendar day grace period for payment of taxes. Payment must be received by the last day of the grace period to avoid interest.

Please note that on the day following the last day of the grace period, interest will be charged, reverting to the statutory due dates, at 8% on the first $1500.00 and 18% on the balance.

All payments must be made by check, money order, payable to Borough of Carteret, or cash.

If you mortgage company or bank is no longer responsible for paying your real estate taxes, kindly contact the tax office immediately at (732) 541-3820, so we may update our records. 

Tax Assessors Office:

The Tax Assessors Office is responsible for all assessment figures, addresses, mortgage holders, veteran deductions and senior deductions.  

SENIOR CITIZEN/VETERAN DEDUCTIONS

Seniors - If you were 65 years or older as of December 31st of the previous year, you may be eligible for a deduction of $250.00 annually, from your gross tax amount. Applicants must own and reside in the home on which the deduction is claimed. There is an income limitation of $10,000.00 combine income if married, excluding social security.

Veterans - If you have served in the armed forces or if you are a widow of a veteran that never remarried, you may be eligible for a deduction of $250.00 annually, from your gross tax amount. There is a 100% permanently disabled veteran deduction which grants full tax exemption of qualified veterans.
